Let’s Talk Porcupines

I spent the last several days getting to know this porcupine, finding its tree in the forest and photographing the plump little warrior going about its daily business. Porcupines are some of the oddest and most interesting creatures in the world.

Slowly climbing through the trees like a sloth, slicing through bark like a toothy beaver and ambling through the undergrowth like an overweight sailor: they’re ridiculous. Oh, and they’re covered head-to-toe in razor sharp, pointy spears. In my encounters with porcupines, I’ve found them to be gentle, inquisitive animals. This one lost its fear of me after a period of time, and as a result, these are probably the most up-close & personal pictures of a porcupine you’re ever going to see. I hope you enjoy them.
